Soccer Rules & Regulations

We play with many common rules and regulations of general outdoor soccer. For FIFA Rules,

Rules that are different that you should be aware of area as follows:

 

Rosters: 

- Only players who are on NAV official rosters can play in league games 

- All players must have a waiver on file and have approved payment

- If your team needs help fielding a full squad for a game, you may recruit players from other (in-league) teams to play. You must also contact the NAV soccer staff to make them aware of the situation

 

Game time:

- Games need to start on time 

- There will be a 5 minute grace period where referee will delay the start of the game for late players. 

- After 5 minutes, the official game clock will start. When players arrive, they will play out the remaining time

- Teams can start a game with 5 players 

- After 5 minutes past the start time, if a team does not have 5 players, they will forfeit 

- A soft forfeit is a game where a team has between 1-4 players

- Game will be recorded as a 3-0 loss

- A hard forfeit is game where a team doesn’t have anyone show up and doesn’t let the NAV know ahead of time

- Game will be recorded as a 6-0 loss

- There will be two 25 minute halves with a 2-5 minute halftime period 

- The NAV will provide game balls. The NAV is not required to provide balls before game time

- Teams need to bring their own balls to warm up with 

 

 

 

Play: 

- There are 8 players on the field at a time (including a goalkeeper) 

- Players can expect a 8yd distance for opposing players on an indirect restart 

- Sliding is accepted to collect a ball, sliding is not permitted in relative proximity to another player (Absolutely no slide tackling)

- Sliding within relative proximity to another player will be allowed for goalkeepers if they are leading with their hands 

- Substitutes can enter the field at any time, after the player they are replacing is off the field. (Sub on the fly)

- There are no offsides 

- All free kicks are indirect unless referee says otherwise 

- Aggressive and hostile play will not be tolerated 

- Bookings can be awarded for descent 

 

Attire:

- Players need to be wearing their corresponding team color

- Goalkeepers need to be wearing a different color than the field players

- Shinguards are recommended but not required 

- Please wear soccer specific shoes 

 

 

Miscellaneous: 

- There must be one female on the field for both teams at all time 

- Unless team captains agree on an amendment prior to the game

- In the case of severe weather, games may be moved inside to the futsal court

- If a player receives 3 red cards over the course of the season, they can be suspended for the remainder of the session (without receiving a refund)

This includes playoff games

 

Playoffs:

- The top four teams in the standings after the regular season will go to the playoffs 

- Playoff games are the same length as regular season games 

- If the game is tied after regulation there will be a 5 minute over time (golden goal) period 

- If the game remains tied after the over time period, the two teams will go to penalty kicks (5 shooters for each team followed by a 1 to 1 shooter)
